Nine Rising Tide Capital Entrepreneurs Attend Tory Burch Foundation Mentoring Event

Nine Rising Tide Capital entrepreneurs attended a mentoring event hosted by the Tory Burch Foundation on October 14, 2010. The Tory Burch Foundation is a non-profit formed by fashion designer Tory Burch to help economically empower women and their families.  Rising Tide Capital CEO Alfa Demmellash was invited to the event, and the invitation was extended to some of Rising Tide Capital’s entrepreneurs.

The Rising Tide Capital entrepreneurs that were in attendance were Tiffany Perry, Betty Grant, Lisa Best, Gwendolyn Green, Michele Pope, Cherese Bracey, Beatrice Johnston, Michelle Ashley, and Bahier Ramsingh-Lance. Many of them reported that the experience was immensely educating and invaluable.

Cherese Bracey had an opportunity to personally connect with Tory Burch about the children’s book she and her husband created. “She (Burch) was very interested in my project, and invited me to do a holiday event for kids,” said Bracey. “I am very excited and hopeful that this will turn out well. Thanks to Rising Tide Capital for this amazing opportunity.”

“It was a wonderful event.  I was lucky to get placed at tables with successful mentors who started from scratch with hard work,” said entrepreneur Lisa Best. Best was pleased to work with two “humble, but very successful women,” celebrity hair stylist and makeup artist Alexa Rudolfo and Tamara Mellon, founder and chief creative officer of Jimmy Choo.

During the event, entrepreneurs broke into small groups of 5-10 people and had the opportunity to hear the stories of successful business people who are primarily in the music, art, fashion, finance, and television fields. The featured mentors included Emily Rafferty, President – The Metropolitan Museum of Art Education, Marjorie Gubelmann, CEO – Vie Luxe International, Jessica Igoe, Vice President of Global Sponsorship and Event Marketing – AMEX, Mario Grauso, President – Vera Wang, Tracey Kemble, Executive Vice President – Marcus Samuelsson Group, Lisa Ellis, Founding Operating Partner – Fireman Capital Partners, Amy Raskin, Senior Vice President and Director of Research – Alliance Bernstein, and Judy McGrath, Chairman and CEO – MTV Networks. A Q&A session followed the intimate group discussions, and the event concluded with closing remarks by CEO Tory Burch.

“These are the moments we live for,” said Alfa Demmellash, CEO of Rising Tide Capital about the networking event. “When we can give our entrepreneurs these kinds of networking opportunties, we not just building their social capital, we are living our mission by helping them turn their talents into financial capital.”
