NYU Student Jong Lim Joins Rising Tide Capital as Programs Intern
February 7, 2013--Join the Rising Tide Capital’s programs team to welcome NYU student Jong Myeoung Lim who will intern for the Spring 2013 semester. Originally from Seoul, South Korea, at age 12 Lim moved to Philadelphia where he first noticed the magnitude of poverty and homelessness in the U.S.
“Even though there are so many nonprofits and people trying to help out, the problem sometimes seems too big,” recalled Lim.
Driven to make a difference, he enrolled at New York University to study economics and secured an internship with the international charity, World Vision. With a classmate, he also started a weekend project to interview the homeless in Manhattan and connect them with relevant services.
To gain further experience closer to his Jersey City apartment, he joined Rising Tide Capital’s programs team to help plan and execute monthly workshops and key events such as the recent Plan & Pitch competition. Lim hopes to apply the lessons he learns at Rising Tide Capital to a career with an economic development nonprofit after he graduates.
“What inspires me most about Rising Tide Capital is that every time they help an individual start a business they create a ripple effect in the community. Those individuals support their families, create jobs and give back to their communities,” said Lim.
When he’s not volunteering or attending class, Lim loves participating in group sports and playing with his beloved pet Yorkee, Geru.
